SMX Announces Opening of Kraken Account as Part of Board-Approved Treasury Strategy

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESS Newswire / January 16, 2026 / SMX (Security Matters) PLC (NASDAQ:SMX), a global pioneer in molecular-marker technology and blockchain-backed digital product passports, today announced that it has opened a corporate account with Kraken as part of a treasury strategy authorized by the Company’s Board of Directors.

The account opening represents a measured operational step supporting SMX’s broader treasury framework, which is being developed to align capital management with the Company’s long-term technology and verification roadmap. This initiative reflects the Company’s focus on secure digital infrastructure and disciplined balance sheet management.

SMX’s treasury strategy is being designed to support systems that connect verified physical activity to digitally represented value. The Company’s technology operates at the material level, enabling precise identification, tracking, and lifecycle verification of physical substances across global supply chains. The treasury infrastructure is being evaluated to ensure it can support these systems as they scale.

    Engaging with Kraken

The selection of Kraken reflects SMX’s focus on institutional-grade platforms that offer operational controls, secure custody, and established compliance standards. The Company views this engagement as infrastructure-oriented rather than transactional, supporting future accounting and settlement mechanisms tied to verified activity.

A central component of SMX’s long-term roadmap is the Plastic Cycle Token (PCT), a virtual credit framework designed to represent verified recycled plastic activity. PCT is intended to function as a digitally represented unit linked to measured outcomes and is grounded in SMX’s material verification capabilities.

The Company believes that credible circular economy systems require verifiable data before value can be assigned. PCT has been designed to address this requirement by linking digital credits directly to authenticated physical material flows, rather than estimates or abstract reporting constructs.

    Aligning with Evolving Digital Economies

To support such systems, SMX is preparing treasury and accounting infrastructure capable of handling digitally represented value units in a controlled and transparent manner. This preparation is occurring alongside the ongoing development of verification technology and partner engagement.

SMX also believes that broader market conditions have improved with respect to digital infrastructure maturity, institutional participation, and operational standards, and that these developments have created more favorable conditions for companies developing verification-based value systems tied to real-world activity, including recycling and materials recovery.

The Company’s primary focus remains on advancing material traceability, authentication, and transparency across global supply chains. Treasury-related initiatives are intended to support this mission by ensuring readiness for future verification-driven value mechanisms.

SMX will continue to advance its treasury strategy under Board oversight, supporting its long-term objective of turning verified sustainability performance into measurable, accountable outcomes.

  • California ChangeLawyers Launches Next Gen Scholars Program for Fall 2026 California Law Students

California ChangeLawyers Launches Next Gen Scholars Program for Fall 2026 California Law Students

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, January 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — California ChangeLawyers is pleased to announce the launch of the Next Gen Scholars Program for the fall of 2026, a revamped initiative designed to support incoming law students who plan to practice in California and are committed to strengthening the state’s justice system. The program combines direct financial assistance with cohort-based leadership development, reflecting a broadened approach to scholarship support intended to reduce barriers while helping future legal leaders build sustainable careers.

The Next Gen Scholars Program is structured as a multi-year pilot, with an inaugural cohort expected to run from 2026 through 2029. The program’s purpose is to help launch the careers of vigilant changemakers who harness their power for good in California. Guided by the tagline “You Belong Here,” the initiative is designed to provide both financial support and leadership development for a small cohort of scholars.

According to the organization, each Next Gen Scholar will receive $50,000 in direct support, structured as $15,000 per year for three years and a $5,000 post-graduate stipend specifically designated for bar exam preparation. In addition to direct funding, scholars will participate in a curated cohort experience that includes leadership training, mentorship and career opportunities, access to wellness resources, and community support designed to help scholars navigate law school and early career transitions.

“The Next Gen Scholars Program will create lasting change not only in the lives of the scholars but also the communities they will serve,” says Alexis Amezcua, Apple Senior Director and ChangeLawyers Board President. “It’s a downpayment on the future of justice in California.”

“The path to leadership in the legal profession should not be as hard as it is,” states Christopher Punongbayan, Executive Director of California ChangeLawyers. “Today, far too many barriers, such as financial, structural, and practical, limit who rises to positions of power. The Next Gen Scholars Program is our answer: early, meaningful support for those committed to building a more just California.”

Applications for the inaugural cohort are scheduled to open January 28, 2026, and an information webinar will be held the same day at noon to review program details and the application process. After rounds of review, California ChangeLawyers expects to select a cohort of approximately five to ten scholars, with notifications and a public cohort announcement anticipated in June 2026.

Eligibility requirements include having applied to an accredited California law school for Fall 2026 admission, planning to practice law in California, and demonstrating financial need. Ideal applicants will also show a clear commitment to serving California communities, have overcome hardship, and bring a strong desire to use their legal training to advance justice across the state. Registration information for the webinar and application updates are available at: https://changelawyers.org/next-gen-scholars/.

Additionally, California ChangeLawyers is inviting philanthropic and organizational partners to support the Next Gen Scholars Program Fund. The organization is accepting tax-deductible contributions, including recurring gifts, to help sustain the fund throughout the duration of the program. California ChangeLawyers noted that the minimum corporate gift is $10,000, while additional contribution levels are welcomed from individuals and organizations. Sponsors may also have opportunities to collaborate with California ChangeLawyers on scholar experiences such as panels, site visits, and events designed to deepen learning and strengthen cohort support.

Confirmed funders currently include The Anjan Choudhury Memorial Scholarship Fund, The Morrison Foerster Foundation, WilmerHale, PG&E, Airbnb, Wilson Sonsini Foundation, Morrison & Foerster LLP, and Pillsbury LLP.

For more than 35 years, California ChangeLawyers has invested in the next generation of lawyers, leaders, and changemakers through scholarships, fellowships, grantmaking, and advocacy work. The organization reports a network of more than 1,500 alumni across its scholarship and fellowship programming, and its work has focused on building a justice system that better reflects and serves California communities.

In 2025, California ChangeLawyers paused its usual scholarship application cycles while redesigning its approach to scholar support. Scholarship applications for the 2025 1L and 2026 3L cycles remain paused as the organization finalizes a reimagined model intended to deepen impact and better align programming with its long-term mission.

Known for her meticulous attention to detail, strong legal writing skills, and deep understanding of corporate governance, Lisa currently serves at Kaufman & Canoles, where she plays a vital role in guiding attorneys and clients through sophisticated corporate transactions.

Prior to her current role, Lisa served at Hirschler Fleischer, where she contributed extensively to corporate law matters involving compliance and the preparation of critical legal documentation. Her ability to navigate regulatory frameworks with accuracy and efficiency has earned her a reputation as a dependable professional within the legal community.

Lisa’s legal career began in 2006 at Williams Mullen, where she joined as a legal assistant and spent eight years developing a strong foundation in legal operations. She later transitioned into the role of Corporate and Securities Paralegal, excelling in that capacity for an additional nine years. During this time, she was deeply involved in drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings, and supporting corporate clients as they navigated increasingly complex regulatory environments. Her breadth of experience and problem-solving acumen have consistently helped legal teams operate efficiently while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Complementing her professional experience, Lisa earned her Paralegal Certificate from James Madison University, graduating with a perfect GPA. Rather than becoming overwhelmed, she breaks complex issues into manageable steps and addresses them with focus and determination. This mindset has reinforced her belief in perseverance, patience, and resilience as essential components of long-term success. To young women entering the legal field, Lisa offers clear and encouraging advice: do not let fear, age, or uncertainty prevent you from pursuing change. Growth, she believes, comes from taking risks, stepping outside one’s comfort zone, and committing to continuous learning.

Lisa also recognizes the challenges facing today’s legal professionals, particularly the need to adapt to new assignments that require extensive research and staying current with constantly changing regulations. While demanding, she views these challenges as opportunities for growth—each new task offering a chance to expand her knowledge and sharpen her expertise.

Guided by honesty and integrity in both her professional and personal life, Lisa believes transparency and accountability are foundational to building trust. “If I make a mistake, I believe it’s important to own up to it right away and take steps to fix it, rather than avoid or cover it up,” she says.

Outside of her dedication to legal excellence, Lisa is passionate about giving back to her community. She actively volunteers her time to support local causes and organizations, reinforcing her belief in the importance of contributing positively to society.

Taliah Hameed is redefining success in the realms of real estate and legal services through her unique blend of professional experience, unwavering advocacy for inclusivity, and commitment to community engagement. As a seasoned homeowner, landlord, and entrepreneur, Taliah brings over two decades of hands-on experience in property management, investments, and client relations, coupled with a robust background in the legal field. Her journey offers an inspiring narrative of resilience, adaptability, and leadership that resonates with aspiring professionals in the industry.

With a career spanning more than 40 years, Taliah’s trajectory began as a court reporter before transitioning into her current role as a legal secretary. This dual experience in the legal system has equipped her with exceptional skills in documentation, confidentiality, and precision—qualities that are invaluable in the fast-paced world of real estate. Her legal acumen enhances her capability to navigate the complexities of property ownership, while her entrepreneurial spirit drives her to build robust relationships with clients and tenants alike.

Taliah’s educational background is as diverse as her career, holding an Associate’s Degree in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies. This commitment to inclusivity not only reflects her dedication to effective communication but also underscores her ability to connect with diverse communities. Taliah’s professional journey illustrates a unique fusion of legal expertise, business acumen, and cultural awareness, allowing her to excel in multiple domains.

Her success story is built on a foundation of perseverance and adaptability. Taliah embarked on her real estate journey 23 years ago, beginning as a homeowner and evolving into a skilled property manager overseeing multi-family units. Her role requires not only patience and precision but also strong leadership skills to foster a positive environment for tenants. “Managing properties is more than just a business; it’s about creating a community where everyone feels valued and respected,” she asserts.

Taliah’s dedication to advocacy and continuous learning is evident in her ongoing pursuit of certification in American Sign Language interpreting. This endeavor aligns with her vision of creating stability and comfort for those she serves, particularly in the realm of corporate housing. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m providing a safe and welcoming space for others,” she states, highlighting the fulfillment she derives from her work.

For young women entering the industry, Taliah offers sage advice: “Have confidence in your skills and judgment, even when faced with new or intimidating situations. It’s important to follow your passions while staying committed to continuous learning and professional growth. Seeking out mentors who can provide guidance, support, and perspective is also invaluable.”

Her belief in planning and adaptability is also crucial in navigating the unpredictable nature of property management. “Success comes from a balance of careful preparation and the ability to pivot when necessary,” she explains.

Throughout her career, Taliah has faced numerous challenges, including the unpredictability of human behavior and the dynamics of a male-dominated industry. “You can have every plan in place, but people are always the variable,” she says. Her experiences have honed her patience and problem-solving skills, essential tools for any property manager. Early in her career, Taliah encountered skepticism regarding her expertise from contractors, but she turned these challenges into motivation. “Instead of backing down, I used those experiences as motivation to master every detail of my business—from the legal aspects of eviction to the financial logistics of multi-family property ownership,” she emphasizes.

Isolation as a business owner and navigating funding options has also been part of her journey. “There’s no manual for this work—you just learn, adapt, and keep going,” Taliah notes, illustrating her proactive approach to problem-solving. The values of integrity, responsibility, persistence, and resilience are at the core of her philosophy, guiding her interactions with tenants, contractors, and colleagues. “Challenges, whether operational or interpersonal, are opportunities to learn and grow, not obstacles to fear,” she reflects.

If Taliah could impart one key lesson, it would be: “Say yes before you’re ready. Growth doesn’t wait for perfect timing.” Whether it’s taking on a first big project, leading a new initiative, or navigating an unfamiliar platform, she encourages others to embrace challenges head-on, understanding that confidence is built through action, not anticipation. This principle has been a cornerstone of both her professional and personal development.

Beyond her career, Taliah is deeply committed to giving back to the community. For over two decades, she has actively supported the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and has contributed to initiatives with Sadaqa House, reflecting her belief in giving back and making a positive impact wherever she can.

Taliah Hameed embodies the spirit of resilience and advocacy in real estate and beyond. Her journey is a testament to the power of hard work, inclusivity, and community engagement, inspiring others to pursue their passions with confidence and integrity.

Dr. Karen Whala, Dr. Gary Hsia, and Dr. Bethany Hsia are co-founders and veterinarians of CodaPet. They share a passion for increasing both customer access and awareness by empowering a network of veterinarians who provide compassion and professional care to more pets and their families in a familiar environment.

“I decided to provide in-home euthanasia so I can help pets pass peacefully, surrounded by the people who love them most, and offer families comfort and dignity during one of the most difficult moments they will face,” says Dr. Christina Divine.

Dr. Christina Divine is a Florida native who proudly serves pet families in Brevard County with compassion, experience, and a deep respect for the human–animal bond. She grew up in Tallahassee and earned both her undergraduate degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida, graduating from the UF College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. After completing a veterinary residency in Colorado, Dr. Divine chose to return home to Florida to be closer to family and the community she loves.

Early in her career, Dr. Divine was drawn to veterinary medicine through her fascination with reproduction and the miracle of bringing new life into the world. Over time, her perspective expanded to embrace the full journey of a pet’s life—from its joyful beginnings to the tender moments at the end. Today, supporting pets and the people who love them through every stage of that journey is central to her work.

Dr. Divine is passionate about offering in-home euthanasia as a way to provide pets with a peaceful passing in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, and the people who mean the most to them. “In-home euthanasia is a strong fit for Brevard County because our community has a high number of devoted pet parents who deeply value compassionate, high-quality care—especially during a pet’s end-of-life journey,” says Dr. Divine.

A proud mom of three, Dr. Divine balances her professional life with family time alongside her husband and children. They enjoy being outdoors together, especially when they can spend time at the beach. Their home is also shared with three beloved pets: Tres Leches, a resilient three-legged rescue cat; Basil, a playful young cat who keeps the household lively; and Chef, a gentle Goldendoodle who is happiest lounging on the couch with his people.

Dr. Christina Divine serves Palm Bay, Melbourne, and surrounding Brevard County communities, including Titusville, Merritt Island, Cocoa, Rockledge, Viera, Satellite Beach, and Sebastian—providing reliable, compassionate veterinary care along Florida’s Space Coast.

    How In-home Pet Euthanasia Works

Through CodaPet, pet parents can easily book in-home pet euthanasia performed by a compassionate and licensed veterinarian. Prior to the appointment, the veterinarian contacts the family to address any questions or concerns they might have. At the appointment, the veterinarian assists the family by going over the diagnosis and applying a quality-of-life assessment to objectively assess the pet’s health and ensure there is no uncertainty about the need for euthanasia.

The visit takes, on average, 45 minutes. Pet parents have a window of time to be with their pets privately before and after the euthanasia procedure. The veterinarian only starts the euthanasia process when everyone is ready. This helps bring closure to all family members involved in the end-of-life care of a pet. For those who need support with aftercare, the veterinarian can assist with transportation and cremation services.

Benefits of In-home Pet Euthanasia include:

    1. Compassion: In-home pet euthanasia allows for a more compassionate approach to end-of-life care. Pets can be surrounded by their loved ones, receive individual attention and care, and pass away peacefully in a familiar environment.

    2. Comfort: One major benefit of in-home pet euthanasia is the comfort it provides to both the pet and their owners. The familiar surroundings of home can help reduce anxiety and stress for pets, making the process more peaceful. In addition, being surrounded by loved ones can provide a sense of support and comfort during a very difficult time.

    3. Control: In-home pet euthanasia also allows pet owners to have more control over the experience. They can choose the time and place of the euthanasia, as well as who will be present. In addition, in-home euthanasia allows owners to personalize the experience, including choosing the location, music, lighting, and other factors that can make the experience more meaningful.

    4. Closure: Being able to say goodbye in a meaningful way can be an essential part of the grieving process. In-home pet euthanasia allows for a more intimate farewell, which can provide closure and help with the healing process.

    In-home Pet Euthanasia Costs

The starting price of in-home euthanasia starts at $350 in Palm Bay. The aftercare and cremation price begins at $100 and varies depending on factors such as the driving distance, the pet’s size, and the option for private or communal cremation.

PitPat Sports Club 37 Officially Launches: Pedal to Win, Riding Toward 2026 With Cyclists Worldwide

HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, January 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — As a global leader in online sports competitions, PitPat is committed to reshaping how people participate in sporting events through digital innovation and smart fitness hardware. No matter where they are, sports enthusiasts can compete fairly under a unified ruleset and experience the sense of achievement that comes with real competition. At the start of 2026, PitPat introduces a brand-new online club event—Sports Club 37: Pedal to Win—centered on cycling, one of the world’s most accessible and engaging sports. The event invites users around the globe to take on the new year’s challenge together, competing as teams.

Sports Club 37: Pedal to Win will officially kick off on January 18, 2026. The event adopts a club-based team competition format, with team rankings determined by the total cycling mileage accumulated by all members. Rankings will be updated in real time throughout the event, ensuring transparency and fairness at every stage. After the competition concludes, the top 10 clubs will be rewarded, with each qualifying club receiving a $10 cash prize. Rewards will be distributed proportionally based on each member’s actual contribution to the team’s total mileage—fully embodying the philosophy of “ride more, earn more, and progress together.”

Commenting on the event, Kevin Zhang, Founder of PitPat, noted that online club competitions are not only a test of individual fitness, but also a new form of teamwork in the digital age.

“Through the Sports Club series, we want sport to move beyond being a solitary activity and instead become a way to connect people with shared passions. Looking ahead, PitPat will continue to build a richer ecosystem of online events, enabling users worldwide to take part in meaningful, community-driven competitions anytime and anywhere.”

Participants can join the event by connecting the PitPat platform with smart fitness equipment such as DeerRun and SupeRun. Cycling data generated by these devices is synchronized in real time to PitPat and used directly for rankings and result calculations. This integration allows home workouts and daily training sessions to deliver a professional competition experience, turning smart fitness devices into a true bridge between real-world exercise and online competition.

One of the most significant advantages of online competitions lies in how they fundamentally transform traditional participation models. Through PitPat, sport is no longer limited by fixed venues, synchronized start times, or the high costs of offline organization. Users can complete their cycling sessions according to their own schedules, in familiar and safe environments, while still competing under a globally unified rules system. This flexibility dramatically lowers the barrier to entry, enabling everyday users, beginners, and even those without established exercise habits to join competitive events with ease—shifting sports from an activity for the few to a daily pursuit accessible to all.

Online competitions also set new standards for fairness and professionalism. Leveraging smart devices and data-driven algorithms, PitPat automatically collects and calculates mileage, duration, and individual contributions, eliminating the inaccuracies and disputes associated with manual tracking. Real-time rankings and team results give users a clear view of both personal and collective progress. This data-backed competition structure not only ensures credible results, but also provides clear, measurable feedback from every workout, strengthening both the professional feel and the sense of engagement.

Most importantly, online events significantly enhance the social connection and emotional value of exercise. Through club and team-based mechanisms, PitPat transforms fragmented individual workouts into shared, interactive experiences. As users ride to contribute mileage to their teams, a natural sense of responsibility and collective pride emerges, encouraging long-term consistency. Real-time rankings and dynamic performance changes foster positive motivation among members, turning exercise from repetitive training into a social activity that can be shared, discussed, and remembered together. By combining competition with community, PitPat is redefining how people engage with sport in the digital era.
